Welcome Forward campaign

Turning a visual campaign into a digital story.

Equinox's annual campaigns were known for striking imagery. Welcome Forward introduced something new: a deeper narrative around the people, training, and mindset behind the work.

In 2021, the campaign featured two talents sharing their unique approaches to strengthening both mind and body. The experience moved between internal mental training and the physical environments where that discipline showed up.

Mind palace to everyday practice.

Miles takes us through his “mind palace” as he prepares for fencing matches, revealing the mental work behind physical performance.

Daisy brings that idea back into daily life in New York City, connecting the intensity of Miles's preparation with a more familiar rhythm of training mind and body in everyday environments.

Equinox.com was not built for long-form campaign storytelling.

Historically, the website featured relatively little long-form editorial content. The challenge was to introduce more narrative without losing the visual impact of the campaign—or making the page feel disconnected from the broader Equinox digital experience.

How do we keep the campaign visually bold without letting imagery overpower the story?
How do we make long-form content feel native to a site built around shorter, more visual experiences?
How do we preserve the campaign identity across digital touchpoints?

Use imagery and handwriting to control the rhythm.

My approach was to break down dense text with strong campaign imagery and handwritten graphics that acted as connective tissue between sections.

The handwritten elements helped guide the story progression, while the imagery created pauses and shifts in pace so the page never became a wall of copy.

The goal was not simply to place campaign assets on a page. It was to turn them into an editorial experience.

A new content pattern for Equinox digital.

Earlier campaigns often used digital primarily as a place to display strong visual assets. Welcome Forward pushed the experience further by revealing the story and motivation behind the creative.

It became one of the first opportunities to treat an Equinox brand campaign as a narrative digital experience rather than a gallery of campaign imagery.

The project aligned the site with the campaign's aesthetic while also expanding what content presentation could look like inside the Equinox digital ecosystem.

The shift was small but meaningful: from showing the campaign to telling the story behind it.
